All-Share Index Hits N39.05tr in Six Months — Dr Agama

The Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Dr Emomotimi Agama, says Nigeria’s All-Share Index rose to N39.049 trillion within 6 months of the implementation of the Investments and Securities Act, 2025.
Agama disclosed this during a colloquium at Godfrey Okoye University on Wednesday, attributing the growth to reforms by the President Bola Tinubu administration aimed at strengthening the economy and the capital market.
He described the new law as a “visionary step” that has boosted investor confidence and market performance, noting that it formally recognises and regulates digital and virtual assets — a move designed to promote innovation among Nigeria’s youth.
He said the SEC had intensified oversight of key sectors, including commodity markets, online forex platforms, and securities exchanges, to ensure market integrity and investor protection.
Agama added that the Act introduced strict penalties for illegal market activities such as Ponzi schemes, with offenders facing fines of up to N20 million or 10 years’ imprisonment.
According to him, the capital market’s recent ability to raise N24.3 trillion in bank recapitalisation demonstrates its strength in mobilising long-term funds for national development
