Nigeria Can Become a Tech-Driven Nation — Dr Adebowale

A lecturer at Babcock University, Dr Adetayo Adebowale, has said Nigeria has the potential to become a tech-driven nation by harnessing its youthful population, improving internet access, and investing in research-backed innovation.
Adebowale, who was recently named among the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier for the second consecutive year, said the country must strengthen its technological infrastructure and fund research aimed at solving national problems.
He urged Nigerian researchers to remain disciplined and proactive, adding that impactful research requires time, focus, and consistent effort.
Speaking on his global recognition, he described it as “a humbling honour” and a motivation to continue pursuing excellence while representing Babcock University and Nigeria with integrity and innovation.
Adebowale also noted that international recognition enhances collaboration and boosts Babcock University’s visibility. With over 92 publications and 1,000 citations, he emphasised that research should translate into real societal impact.
His work explores emerging technologies in libraries and interdisciplinary studies linking information management, technology and society.
