The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has sponsored more than 140 beneficiaries to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.
At a pre-departure briefing in Abuja, PAP Administrator Dr Dennis Otuaro said the scholarships were designed to build human capital in the Niger Delta and support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said the students had been placed in professional and industry-relevant courses, with the expectation that they would return to strengthen the region’s workforce. “When they complete their studies and return, they will add value to the human resource base of the Niger Delta and Nigeria,” Otuaro said.
The deployment forms part of the PAP’s formal education scheme. Laptops were also distributed to the scholars to aid their research. Senior officials, including Nigerian Army Provost Marshal Maj Gen M.O. Erebulu and PAP Head of Education Dr Charles Ariye, gave orientation talks on cultural and security issues abroad.
Beneficiaries such as Gift Gbaminido and Amadimati Greatman expressed gratitude and pledged to make good use of the opportunity.
