Architect Anthony Okoye, marks his 60th birthday
Architects and students across Nigeria have unveiled a national design competition to celebrate renowned architect Anthony Okoye on his 60th birthday.
The initiative is a joint effort of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Design Genre Limited, and the Ife Architecture Students’ Association of Obafemi Awolowo University.
Okoye, a fellow of the NIA and founder of Design Genre, is widely respected for his leadership in sustainable urban development. The competition aligns with his commitment to mentoring young architects and promoting environmentally responsible design.
IFASA President John Ojo said the contest reflects Okoye’s long-standing support for architectural education, noting that his global experience continues to inspire students to rethink sustainability and innovation.
With the theme “Reimagining the Urban Block of Nigerian Cities,” the contest invites undergraduate and postgraduate architecture students to develop bold, sustainable concepts for neighbourhoods in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Maiduguri, Makurdi, and Kano. Entries must demonstrate green design principles, address congestion, and propose scalable urban solutions.
Registration is free and requires teams to include at least one Urban and Regional Planning student. The competition will run across regional and national stages, with winners announced in 2026 and cash prizes of up to N650,000.
