The Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in implementing Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) intervention projects across the state.
In an interview with ABN TV on Wednesday, ASUBEB Executive Chairman Mrs Lydia Onuoha revealed that the ongoing projects, spanning the 2020 to 2023 funding years, are being executed under a transparent framework to eliminate any potential loopholes.
“To avoid any form of compromise, the procurement process has been placed fully in the hands of the procurement unit,” she said.
According to her, independent stakeholders, including representatives from UBEC, civil society groups, and the Office of the Auditor-General, are actively involved in the procurement process to ensure compliance with laid-down procedures.
She emphasised that the current administration under Governor Alex Otti maintains a zero-tolerance policy for irregularities, especially in the education sector, which she noted received an unprecedented 20 per cent of the state’s budget allocation.
“We are all on the same page when it comes to transparency. From bidding to project execution, we have ensured everything is guided by law and fairness,” Mrs Onuoha stated.
She also disclosed that a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) mechanism has been implemented to oversee real-time project delivery.
She stated that contractors would be closely supervised, with regular review meetings held to assess progress and address any gaps in their work.
Reaffirming ASUBEB’s alignment with Governor Otti’s education-focused governance agenda, Mrs Onuoha assured stakeholders that project outcomes will be evident in improved school infrastructure and learning environments across Abia State.
