Prof. Jurbe Molwus, ASUU Chairperson at UNIJOS
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos branch, has accused the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, of misleading Nigerians about the Federal Government’s implementation of agreements with the union.
The union warned it may resume its suspended strike in two weeks if the government fails to show a genuine commitment to resolving pending issues, including withheld salaries, unpaid promotion arrears, and the delayed release of the N50 billion revitalisation fund.
ASUU Chairperson at UNIJOS, Prof Jurbe Molwus, said the minister’s claims of releasing N2.3 billion to clear arrears were “false and insulting,” noting that such an amount “can hardly cover three major universities.”
Molwus also criticised Alausa for issuing “misleading press statements” instead of releasing funds, describing his actions as evidence of incompetence.
He urged President Bola Tinubu to replace the minister with someone “who understands the challenges facing tertiary education,” adding that ASUU’s patience was wearing thin as it mobilises for a National Executive Council meeting on November 8-9.
