Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, has entered into a partnership with the Blacks Ancestral Native Communities (BANC) Foundation to reduce irregular migration by equipping Nigerian youth with practical skills.
The collaboration, sealed through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Babcock’s campus, aims to train up to 10,000 participants — including students, artisans, school dropouts and other interested youths — in trades such as mechanics, plumbing, ICT, tailoring, culinary arts, tiling and electronics.
Speaking virtually from Geneva, Dr Chibuzor Onyema, President of the BANC Foundation, said the initiative would create a credible labour exchange between Africa and Western countries. He emphasised the importance of hands-on training that empowers young people for both local jobs and global opportunities.
According to Onyema, international partnerships are already being developed to ensure that graduates of the programme gain recognition and legitimate access to overseas employment opportunities. The move, he noted, will provide alternatives to unsafe migration routes while building a skilled workforce for Nigeria.
