A delegation of 11 medical students from Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State, took part in this year’s Consortium of New Sub-Saharan African Medical Schools (CONSAMS) conference at the Technical University of Mombasa, Kenya.
The students presented 12 abstracts drawn from their research at the university. Their work encompassed areas such as artificial intelligence, planetary health, antimicrobial resistance, medical education reform, and pandemic preparedness.
Titles included Impact of AI-Related Fears on Speciality Preferences among Clinical Medical Students in Southwest Nigeria, Leveraging AI-Driven One Health Surveillance in Sub-Saharan Africa, and AI Integration and Technology Acceptance in Medical Education in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Ojichukwujife Chuka-Utazi, Oluwatobiloba Aweda, and Eziokwu Benita were named to the newly created CONSAMS Student Council, while another student, Priscilla Bakare, received the Best Abstract Award.
The Provost of the Benjamin S. Carson College of Health and Medical Sciences at Babcock University, Professor John Sotunsa, was elected Secretary-General of the consortium.
In a statement, the university’s vice-chancellor, Professor Tayo Ademola, congratulated the students and staff on their achievements.
