The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has announced plans for a significant renovation of its student hostels as the 2024/2025 academic session concludes.In a statement from the Estate and Works Department, the management said the rehabilitation will cover all significant residence halls across the Ugbowo and Ekenhuan campuses. The project will upgrade plumbing, electrical fittings, roofing, and general room facilities to modern standards.Students have since been directed to vacate their hostels to allow renovation work to begin. Security officers and hostel managers will supervise the evacuation to ensure order and safety.The university added that the renovation will be executed in phases to ensure every hostel benefits from the upgrade. UNIBEN also released the 2025/2026 academic calendar, stating that newly admitted students will begin clearance and registration on November 10, while returning students resume on November 24, 2025.Vice-Chancellor Prof Lilian Salami assured that the completed project will enhance comfort, hygiene and safety within hostels, aligning with the university’s drive for excellence.
