At Babcock University’s 53rd inaugural lecture held on May 10, 2025, Professor Adewale Adebayo, an expert in Computer Science and Information Security, called on organisations, including universities, to appoint information systems professionals to top management positions.
He stated that such appointments are crucial for effective data-driven decision-making and strategic planning in today’s digital age.
Speaking at the university’s main campus in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Professor Adebayo highlighted the importance of integrating information systems into organisational leadership to address challenges governments, students, and other stakeholders pose.
He advocated including computing-savvy individuals in top-level management to ensure institutions effectively manage their information needs.
Professor Adebayo also spoke about the need for organisations to embed security measures into their systems from the design stage rather than treating security as an afterthought. He pointed out that proactive security integration enhances productivity and prevents potential issues.
In addition, he advised organisations to take ownership of their stored data and formalise the use of social media platforms for official purposes, especially when these platforms are customised and paid for.
He also urged employers, particularly in the education sector, to recognise and value industry experience when recruiting teachers, suggesting that such experience should be given favourable consideration during the hiring process.
Professor Adebayo’s lecture, “Information System and Its Security – Information Quest for Godly Exploitation,” underscored the critical role of information systems in modern organisational management and the need for ethical computing practices starting from the home.
