Babcock University students undertook an academic trip to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Seme Border Command.
The Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Babcock University conducted an academic visit to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Seme Border Command on November 29, 2025. Twenty students participated, gaining practical insights into border management, migration dynamics, and national security operations.The visit aimed to provide students with a first-hand understanding of NIS operations, security challenges at one of Nigeria’s busiest land borders, and professional career opportunities within the service.The students were welcomed by Superintendent Isaac O., the Public Relations Officer, and participated in interactive sessions with immigration officers. Discussions covered NIS responsibilities, the ECOWAS Free Movement Protocol, and the link between migration and national security. A meeting with the Comptroller highlighted both regular and irregular migration, emphasising the need for legal and responsible practices.Students also toured border facilities, observing the MIDAS system for traveller information, e-visa processing, health checkpoints, and interactions with officers from both Nigeria and the Republic of Benin. The excursion included crossing the border into Benin, providing an immersive experience of border operations.
