Rising back-to-school expenses in Ondo State have once again drawn attention to the challenges many Nigerian families face in keeping children in classrooms. In Akoko South East and South West, over 100 students received school supplies at the close of a holiday lessons programme supported by Senator Jide Ipinsagba of Ondo North.
The initiative distributed bags filled with textbooks, exercise books, and learning materials to secondary school students, offering some relief to parents. Local principals and education officials described the support as “transformational,” underscoring how grassroots interventions are helping to address gaps in public education funding.
Parents welcomed the assistance, saying it would ease financial strain as schools reopen. Education advocates, however, warned that such initiatives, while welcome, highlight the continuing reliance on ad hoc support in the absence of sustained government investment in schools.
