Bamboo Investment Tipped to Boost Economy

Experts and investors from across Nigeria and Africa have identified bamboo as a powerful tool to grow Nigeria’s economy. This was discussed during an investors’ forum on bamboo development held at the Unizik Business School, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

The event was organised by the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) in partnership with the Sahelian Institute for Bamboo Research and Nnamdi Azikiwe University. All the speakers at the forum were united in pointing out the economic opportunities inherent in bamboo. They stressed that it could create thousands of jobs for young people. They also encouraged government and private investors to tap into bamboo’s potential to make construction materials, furniture, textiles, and even bioenergy. The forum also featured a keynote lecture by Prof. Muyisa Kazimoto from the Democratic Republic of Congo, who described bamboo as a renewable resource that can support green economic growth in Africa.
