Armed bandits have kidnapped two people, including the principal of Junior Secondary School Melehe, during a late-night attack on Melehe community in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.
The assailants, said to number about four, struck on Friday night between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Residents told reporters that the attackers disguised themselves in hijabs and sat at the entrance of the victims’ residence, pretending to be women.
Around 11:00 p.m., the gunmen reportedly removed their disguises and forced their way into the house. They abducted the school principal and a Fulani woman identified as Aminu Runtoje.
Local sources said the attackers escaped into nearby bushes before security operatives could respond. The whereabouts of the victims remain unknown.
Niger State has faced repeated raids by armed groups in recent years, with schools, rural communities, and highways often targeted for kidnappings and ransom demands. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the latest incident.
