Bayero University, Kano (BUK), says it will construct 500 housing units for its staff to tackle a long-standing accommodation shortage.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Haruna Musa announced the plan during the university’s second Registry Roundtable Discussion held at the Senate Chamber. He described the scheme as one of the most ambitious welfare projects in the institution’s history, adding that inadequate staff housing had been a challenge for decades.
Professor Musa said discussions with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) were at an advanced stage, with a memorandum of understanding expected to be signed soon.
“This housing project is a major step toward improving staff welfare and boosting productivity. We are committed to ensuring that members of our university community live in decent and affordable accommodation,” he said.
The initiative is among the first major programmes of Professor Musa’s administration, less than a month after he assumed office as vice-chancellor.
