History is set to be made as the Imo State Government-owned Benjamin Uwajumogu College of Education, Ihitte Uboma, prepares to hold its maiden convocation ceremony more than ten years after its establishment.
The milestone event follows a significant achievement recorded last year, when, with the support of the state government and the college’s management’s commitment to educational transformation, over 22 of its registered programmes received full accreditation from the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).
According to the Acting Provost, Dr Maryrose Nwachukwu, the upcoming convocation ceremony will celebrate graduates who have been found worthy in both character and learning. The occasion will feature the formal awarding of qualifications, including the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and the National Certificate in Education (NCE), among others.
Preparations for the event, scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 24 2025, at the College Convocation Arena, are well underway. The campus is undergoing a visible transformation, and students, staff, and management are reportedly in high spirits as they await the historic day.
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, whom the Acting Provost described as an “education-loving ambassador”, is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour. As the Special Visitor to the college, his presence will underscore the significance of the occasion.
Dr Nwachukwu expressed profound gratitude to Governor Uzodimma for the facelift the college has received under his administration and for his prompt attention to the institution’s needs and aspirations.
She attributed the recent infrastructural developments and accelerated growth witnessed at the college to the support of the governor’s Shared Prosperity administration. She pledged that her management team would remain committed to justifying the confidence reposed in them.
