Students of the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (UAES), Umuagwo, are pleased that solar-powered streetlights have been installed throughout the campus. This has ended many years of darkness on the campus during the night. The solar lights were installed through a partnership between the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Imo State Government. Now, important areas, such as the school gate, the Senate building, departments, and hostels, are well-lit at night. This initiative aims to make the campus safer and more comfortable for students and staff, to enhance the overall campus experience.
Students say the new lights have made it easier to move around at night for studies and social activities, while also improving security on campus. Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher Chiedozie Eze, thanked Governor Hope Uzodinma and the NDDC for their support. He promised to continue prioritising students’ welfare and working to ensure UAES meets global standards.
