Officials of the Benue State Government have visited pupils of LGEA Primary School, Ater, in Ukum Local Government Area, who were injured in an explosion on the school premises.
The Executive Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Grace Adagba, and the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Dr Margaret Adamu, led a delegation to St. Anthony’s Hospital, Zaki-Biam, on Thursday to assess the children’s condition.
Adagba assured that immediate steps would be taken to repair the damaged school. “These children are very dear to us and to the Governor of Benue State. We are here to ensure that their situation improves and that they return to school as soon as possible,” she said.
Dr Adamu commended Ukum Council Chairman, Jonathan Modi, for his swift response and praised the hospital for providing timely treatment. Hospital officials confirmed that the children had been stabilised, with only one facing a serious eye injury requiring referral to Makurdi.
The state delegation also cleared all medical bills of the pupils. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the explosion.
Parents of the affected children expressed gratitude to the government for its prompt intervention.
