Moses Adasu University, Makurdi (formerly Benue State University), has entered into a partnership with a private developer to build hostels that will accommodate 1,600 students.
Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Terver Ubwa, told reporters on Wednesday that the move is part of efforts to tackle the chronic shortage of student housing in Nigerian universities. He noted that no institution in the country currently provides adequate hostel facilities.
Ubwa explained that the project follows a newly signed memorandum of understanding with the developer. He added that the university will also benefit from a TETFund intervention to construct hostels for clinical and nursing students across the nation.
According to him, both efforts will significantly ease accommodation challenges within the next two years. The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that 120 lecturers have been promoted to associate professor and professor ranks, with 26 additional promotions awaiting council approval.
