Broadcaster Ayinde Soaga Becomes New MAPOLY Alumni President

Popular Nigerian broadcaster Alhaji Ayinde Soaga has been elected as the new President of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Alumni Association. He will serve from 2025 to 2029. The event was held at MAPOLY’s main campus in Abeokuta, Ogun State. It was attended by old and current students, school leaders, and guests from the media and education sectors.

Alhaji Soaga, a respected figure at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), is expected to utilise his extensive experience in broadcasting and national engagement to enhance the image and influence of the alumni body. In his speech, Soaga expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and described his election as a homecoming. “This institution helped shape my career. Coming back as President of the alumni association feels like returning to family,” he said.

With a career that spans decades, Soaga once served as NTA’s National Assembly correspondent between 1999 and 2003, covering key political events, including the 2003 PDP presidential primaries that saw President Olusegun Obasanjo re-elected.

He promised to reposition the alumni association by building stronger partnerships, mentoring students, and launching development projects that will benefit both the polytechnic and the broader alumni community. “We must connect the past with the future. Alumni groups should not only honour legacies but also build platforms for innovation and growth,” he said.

The Rector of MAPOLY, Dr Adeoye Odedeji, congratulated Soaga and described his leadership as a positive step forward. “He is a man of integrity and competence. His experience will bring a new wave of excellence and collaboration to the association,” he said.

Other speakers at the event praised Soaga’s dedication to journalism, his passion for youth development, and his strong support for education. The new executive team, led by Soaga, is expected to roll out programmes that will increase alumni involvement, support infrastructure projects in the school, and provide career opportunities for students and fresh graduates.
