At COP30 in Brazil, the CGIAR received over USD 142 million from donors, including the United Kingdom (GBP 76 million), Denmark (USD 18.5 million), Belgium (EUR 16 million), and Canada (C$8 million), to support climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.
The funding aims to advance partner-led research that reduces agricultural emissions, strengthens food, water, and land systems, and enhances climate adaptation for smallholder farmers.
CGIAR’s work emphasises evidence-based solutions that guide adaptation finance and track climate action under the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA).
With a proven return of $10 for every $1 invested, agricultural research and development (R&D) is one of the most cost-effective solutions to hunger and rural poverty. Despite producing a third of the world’s food, agriculture receives only 1.7% of climate finance, highlighting a gap in investment for long-term innovation.
The funding will support CGIAR’s global operations, spanning over 80 countries, and strengthen partnerships with governments, private sector actors and local communities to scale proven agricultural technologies.
Initiatives encompass digital agriculture, AI, biotechnology, and remote sensing, aiming to achieve a measurable impact on productivity, resilience, equity, and sustainability.
