Covenant University Joins Eduroam, NgRENID Platforms

Covenant University has now started the onboarding process on the Eduroam and NgREN Federated Identity (NgRENID) platforms, following a visit by a delegation from the Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN) under the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Led by Chief ICT Officer Mr. Oluwatobi Fowora, the NgREN team highlighted ongoing support to the university through the Africa Centres of Excellence project, including high-speed broadband internet, access to online journals, anti-plagiarism tools, MATLAB, and capacity building.  Eduroam, they explained, enables students, researchers, and staff to securely access network resources across participating institutions worldwide, fostering collaboration and eliminating the need for multiple logins.

Covenant University’s management, including the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Igban, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lanre Amodu, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Timothy Anake, commended the initiative’s potential to enhance research and academic collaboration.  However, they stressed the need for clarity on administrative and cost-related matters to ensure a smooth rollout.
