Senior secondary school students in Cross River’s Central Senatorial District are set to compete in an entrepreneurship challenge following the launch of the People First Entrepreneurship Clubs and Competitions.
The initiative, spearheaded by the state government through the Cross River State Microfinance and Enterprise Development Agency (CRSMEDA), aims to nurture entrepreneurial thinking among young people.
Thirty government schools participated in the pilot phase, which featured a masterclass on innovation and business development.
Students expressed happiness with the programme, urging the state to expand the clubs to all districts, while others said the training had inspired them to improve their parents’ businesses.
CRSMEDA’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Nissi Ibiang, encouraged students to translate ideas into action by solving local problems through sustainable ventures. Programme coordinator Enwongo-Abasi Okon revealed that 100 schools will compete for prizes worth up to ₦1 million in the coming months.
Educational stakeholders from all six local councils in the district attended the inauguration.
