The National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has stated that utilising dialogue and mediation to resolve conflicts in schools can lead to genuine change in Nigeria’s education system. The Executive Secretary of the NCCE, Prof. Chijioke Okwelle, said this during a conference hosted by the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, in Abuja.
Okwelle noted that disputes are normal in tertiary institutions but should not be seen as problems alone. According to him, when appropriately managed, they can lead to progress. He called for reforms that include good leadership, improved management, and better communication. He also emphasised the importance of utilising data and technology to enhance school efficiency and commended the Senior Staff Union for its peaceful approach to addressing issues.
