Diri Blames Nigeria’s Woes on Ignored Research

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has blamed Nigeria’s underdevelopment on the poor utilisation of research findings by government agencies and public institutions.

Speaking through his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, while hosting a team from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Yenagoa, Diri stated that many valuable studies conducted over the years have not been implemented. He stressed that despite investing resources in strategic research, Nigeria continues to ignore beneficial results, which has slowed progress across sectors.

He praised NIPSS for its commitment to national development and said Bayelsa supports the team’s research on the blue economy. According to him, Bayelsa is rich in marine resources and was the first state to create a Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. The NIPSS delegation, led by Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Omar, stated that their study would examine how the blue economy can contribute to Nigeria’s sustainable growth.
