Angry residents of Okposi-Ukwu in Ebonyi State have staged a protest demanding justice over the death of 16-year-old Ebuka Chukwu, a Senior Secondary School 2 student of Federal Government College, Okposi.
Carrying placards reading “Who killed Ebuka?” and “Stop the killing and bring justice,” demonstrators accused the school of a cover-up and alleged that the student was murdered before his body was dumped in a river.
Community leader Collins Agwu stated that Ebuka was sent, along with other students, to confront suspected hoodlums on July 27 by a staff member identified as Mr Danjuma. “We want justice to prevail, and those behind Ebuka’s death to be unmasked. The school management is playing politics with this incident,” Agwu said.
Some protesters also accused the college of discriminating against local students and staff, warning that their patience should not be mistaken for weakness.
The school’s Vice Principal, Ojima O. Emmanuel, described the death as shocking and promised to cooperate with investigations.
Police spokesperson Joshua Ukandu confirmed that three arrests had been made, adding that an inquiry was underway.
