Edo State is tackling the problem of out-of-school children through a new programme called Edu Rescue. The state’s Commissioner for Education, Dr Paddy Iyamu, stated that the initiative is already making a significant difference in getting children off the streets and into classrooms.
Speaking during the distribution of free school bags, textbooks, and other items, Iyamu praised Governor Monday Okpebholo for his strong support. He described Edu Rescue as a “visionary move” that is changing lives.
Dr Iyamu said that many children who once begged for coins or sold items on the streets are now back in school and dreaming of a better future. “This is what good governance looks like,” he said. He shared the success stories of children like Destiny and Godspower Etiosa, as well as Dorcas and Blessing Amowie, whose lives have been transformed. Edu Rescue aims to give every child in Edo a chance to learn and build a better life.
