Taraba Moves to Combat the Challenge of Out-of-School Children Challenge 

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) have launched a new school enrollment campaign to provide free and quality education to children, in a bid to tackle issues like substance abuse, begging, and thuggery.

According to a recent UNICEF report, over 10 million children in Nigeria are currently out of school. Taraba State’s new campaign is a direct response to this crisis, aligning with the state government’s policy of free and compulsory education.

At the official launch, Taraba State SUBEB Executive Chairperson, Christian Binga, emphasised the urgency of the campaign.

“The main objective for today’s ceremony on the enrollment drive campaign is targeting a reduction in the number of out-of-school children that we have in this state and also to give every child the right to education for a better future,” Binga stated.

Bappa Kulla, Taraba State’s Education Secretary, echoed a similar sentiment. “Education is the bedrock of any progress and development, and without education, there is no way a nation can develop,” Kulla said.  He added that the government is committed to bringing every child back to school.

To support the campaign, the Taraba state government is focused on improving educational infrastructure and quality. The state is set to begin construction on 60 new schools to replace dilapidated structures.
