Enugu Polytechnic Eyes University Status

Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo, will be upgraded to a full-fledged university of agriculture and technology by 2026, the state government has confirmed.

Governor Peter Mbah, represented by Environment Commissioner Prof Sam Ugwu, announced the plan during the institution’s first convocation in Aguobu, Ezeagu Local Government Area. He said the new university would drive the state’s agricultural revolution and contribute to food security.

Rector Rev. Fr. Prof. Nnamdi Nwankwo told graduates that the polytechnic was already positioned as an agricultural hub, but needed increased funding to realise its potential of feeding the state and beyond.

Founded as a teachers’ training college, the institution was later transformed into a college of agriculture in 2009 and subsequently upgraded to a polytechnic in 2014.
