Federal Government Assures Students of Full Loan Coverage

Dr. Alausa received the report of the Committee on Harmonization of NELFund Administration and Charges, chaired by Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan.

The Federal Government has announced that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) will fully cover all fees charged by universities and other tertiary institutions.

Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji Alausa, disclosed in Abuja, explaining that the loan scheme is designed to ensure no student is denied access to higher education because of financial difficulties. He said the loans will pay for tuition, departmental fees, and other expenses, reducing the pressure on parents and helping students study without breaks. Dr Alausa also announced that all universities will soon use a single fee system to stop arbitrary charges and make payments fair and transparent.

The Minister added that the federal government was focused on new reforms that will modernise the educational system and bring it up to par with global standards. These reforms include the adoption of artificial intelligence into classrooms, giving teachers tablets, improving digital literacy, and powering schools with solar energy. He noted that Nigerian tech companies are already creating tools to support these changes and prepare students for the global future.
