The Federal Government has said that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) will no longer fund tertiary institutions with less than 1,000 students.
According to the federal government, the policy will help restructure the funding framework to maximise the available funds. Announced by Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, the Minister of State for Education at the 2025 Policy Meeting in Abuja, the decision will take effect in 2026. She encouraged affected institutions to work on their student enrollment to maintain their funding benefits. The federal government has now mandated that federal institutions publish key data on their websites, including their student populations.
