The Federal Government has pledged to rehabilitate the Police Training College in Ikeja as part of a nationwide plan to upgrade security training institutions.
This assurance was made during an inspection visit on Tuesday by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee, which oversaw the overhaul of security training facilities, led by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah.
Speaking after the tour, Governor Mbah stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration views improved training infrastructure as crucial to achieving its security and economic objectives. He noted that the committee has 30 days to submit its report, which will guide the creation of an intervention fund for the renovation and re-equipment of training schools.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who was part of the team, emphasised the urgency of the assignment and stated that the committee’s composition, comprising seven governors and senior police officers, reflects the President’s commitment to security reform.
Commandant of the Police College, AIG Omolara Oloruntola, highlighted the challenges facing the institution, including dilapidated buildings, a poor water supply, power shortages, and inadequate accommodation.
She appealed for urgent government intervention to restore the college’s capacity to train police personnel effectively.
