FG Criticised for WASSCE Subject Selection

The Education Rights Campaign (ERC) and parent associations have criticised the Federal Ministry of Education for its subject selection for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), describing it as unclear.

According to the groups, the ministry failed to specify clearly in the statement released on December 6 whether it can be academically defended to require the current Senior Secondary School 3 (SSS 3) students to write subjects they were not taught since SSS 1.

In a statement signed by Adaramoye Michael ‘Lenin,’ the National Mobilisation Officer of the ERC, and Olanrewaju Akinola, who represented concerned parents, they expressed that the plan by the ministry and the West African Examination Council (WAEC) put the students in an absurd situation, being that registration for the WASSCE is only four months away.

The ERC added that removing some previously offered subjects from the WAEC registration portal would leave many SSS 3 students unable to select eight subjects unless other subjects from the new curriculum are added.
