The Federal Government, through the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), has commenced the 2025 Quality Assurance Monitoring and Evaluation exercise across senior secondary schools in Nigeria.
The initiative was flagged off on Monday at the Federal Government College, Malali, Kaduna.
Dr Iyela Ajayi, Executive Secretary of NSSEC, explained that the exercise aims to assess and enhance the quality of education in senior secondary schools nationwide.
He noted that education is not merely a tool for individual advancement but the cornerstone of a prosperous and equitable society.
The monitoring exercise is part of the implementation of the National Minimum Standards for Senior Secondary Education, which were approved by the National Council on Education in October 2024 and launched in February 2025.
These standards serve as benchmarks for the operation of all senior secondary schools across the nation.
Dr Ajayi stated that the commission is committed to ensuring that every senior secondary school provides a conducive learning environment that fosters academic excellence, critical thinking, and the development of well-rounded individuals.
He added that the exercise will identify strengths and weaknesses, set clear benchmarks for accountability and improvement, and promote best practices.
The Commissioner for Education in Kaduna State, Prof. Muhammad Bello, expressed delight that Kaduna State was chosen as the sole state in the federation for the inauguration of the 2025 monitoring exercise.
Prof. Bello, represented by the Director of the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority, Prof. Usman Zaria, acknowledged that while the state government has continued to invest significantly in the education sector, there has been a missing aspect of monitoring and evaluation of schools.
He assured the state government of its support for NSSEC’s initiatives.
The NSSEC team also toured facilities at the Federal Government College, Malali, and other selected schools within the state as part of the exercise.
