Dr Tunji Alausa, Education minister, launches Transparency Portal to Drive Accountability in Tertiary Institutions
The Federal Government has launched the Federal Tertiary Institutions Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP) to enhance accountability, data-driven policy and governance across Nigeria’s tertiary education sector. The launch took place on November 14, 2025, at the Ministry of Education Headquarters in Abuja.
Presiding over the event, Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the platform as a milestone in modernising higher education management.
He noted that FTIGTP provides real-time data on enrolment, funding, grants, and performance indicators for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, linking future government interventions to compliance and accountability metrics.
Minister of State for Education, Prof Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmed, called the initiative central to the Ministry’s digital transformation agenda. At the same time, former Aviation Minister Osita Chidoka praised it as visionary and research-driven. Representatives of vice-chancellors, rectors, and provosts pledged support to ensure the platform’s sustainability.
The platform, demonstrated by the Nigerian Education Data Initiative (NEDI), is accessible at transparency.education.gov.ng.
Among the attendees were officials from the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi, including the Bursar, Dr Mbobo Erasmus, and the Acting Director of Procurement, Umoh Jacob.
