The Forum of Governing Council Members in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions (FOGOCOM) has encouraged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off its two-week strike.
The council asked ASUU to consider students’ interests, emphasising that strikes affect their growth and mental health.
Hon. Aguele, the FOGOCOM’s National Publicity Secretary, stated that a developing country like Nigeria should not experience strikes, as they will undermine students’ foundation.
In addition, FOGOCOM emphasised that while ASUU’s decision for the industrial action is valid, their requests can be better considered through dialogue and negotiation.
The body has stated its willingness to mediate a meaningful dialogue between ASUU and the federal government.
