FUGA Honours Oluremi Tinubu, Buni, Others With Doctorate Degrees

The Federal University Gashua (FUGA) marked a significant milestone in history with its maiden combined convocation ceremony, honouring 3,449 graduates from four faculties.

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, graced the occasion, among the six distinguished individuals conferred honorary doctorate degrees. The degrees were also conferred on the wife of Nigeria’s President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; Senator Ibrahim Gaidam; Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawal; Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji; and Justice C.G. Wajid Muhammad, the Emir of Lafia.

In his remarks, Governor Buni congratulated the university’s governing council, management, staff, and students on the historic occasion. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the Nigerian Education Loans Fund (NELFUND). He encouraged state tertiary institutions to explore entrepreneurial education to create employment opportunities for the youth.

The governor also expressed the state government’s willingness to partner with the university to support the development of its students. Earlier in her speech, the vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Maimuna Waziri, described the event as a celebration of academic achievement, institutional growth, and resilience at FUGA.

“The ceremony marked a significant milestone for Federal University Gashua, highlighting the importance of collaboration and support from various stakeholders in achieving the university’s vision. With its maiden combined convocation ceremony, the university looks forward to a bright future ahead, driven by its commitment to academic excellence and community development,” she added.
