College of Engineering (COLENG) Students Undertake Surveying, Photogrammetry Exercise at FUNAAB
Students of the College of Engineering (COLENG) at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), carried out a practical field exercise on surveying and photogrammetry along the University’s Ring Road near the Postgraduate School.
The exercise focused on levelling using the rise-and-fall method to determine land slope and profile, helping students understand the volume of fill required to achieve a level surface.
Participants applied theoretical knowledge to measure vertical and horizontal distances, reduced levels, elevation, and gradient.
Field instruments used included Theodolites for angle measurement, tripod stands for support, and ranging rods for height determination.
Students noted that levelling is crucial in establishing control points, plotting land profiles, and preparing sites for construction.
The hands-on training aimed to enhance technical competence, reinforce classroom learning, and provide practical experience essential for professional engineering practice.
