The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) will begin construction of a new College of Computing Sciences in October 2025, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital skills base.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Babatunde Kehinde said the project, funded through the university’s 2025 TETFund annual intervention, would be completed within a year. He described the development as central to Nigeria’s drive to train graduates in computing, innovation and digital transformation.
The college is expected to serve as a hub for research and training in fields such as artificial intelligence, data science and information technology. University officials stated that it would help address the country’s shortage of digital expertise.
Analysts note that Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy, faces a growing demand for tech talent as businesses and the government push for digitalisation. FUNAAB’s investment reflects a broader shift in universities expanding computing programmes to meet global trends.
