The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ikole Campus, has held the 43rd annual conference of the Horticultural Society of Nigeria (HORTSON).
The conference, themed ‘Roles of Horticulture in Wealth Creation and Improved Livelihood in a Sustainable Economy,’ which was held on Monday, November 3, 2025, gathered researchers, scholars, and agricultural experts across Nigeria.
It emphasised the importance of horticulture as Nigeria strives to improve food security and youth empowerment.
In his welcome address, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, the deputy vice chancellor (Strategic Partnership Research, Innovation, and Linkages), represented by Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, noted that horticulture can create jobs and wealth for Nigerian youths.
Fasina stressed that we need to elevate the power of horticulture in national growth, as there are “no more blue-collar jobs waiting for today’s graduates.”
