Prof Adenike Oladiji, Vice-Chancellor of FUTA
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has cautioned its alumni that certificates may be withdrawn if graduates are found to have committed misconduct.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Adenike Oladiji issued the warning during the 36th Convocation, where 2,747 students received first-degree honours, including 240 First Class graduates.
Oladiji emphasised that character, not just skills, determines success. “No man can climb beyond the limits of his character… the university reserves the right to withdraw your certificate if you misrepresent her,” she said, urging graduates to uphold FUTA’s values and remain individuals of noble character.
The overall best graduating student, Aduragbemi Akindunbi from Civil Engineering, earned a record 4.98 CGPA. The graduating class also included 1,479 Second Class Upper, 912 Second Class Lower, and 116 Third Class students.
Pro-Chancellor Prof Nora Daduut praised President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative for supporting over 3,000 FUTA students through the student loan scheme. She emphasised staff welfare, training, and capacity building, and encouraged graduates to become agents of positive societal change, despite facing financial and institutional challenges.
