The Federal University of Technology, Babura (FUTB), Jigawa State, has launched a town-and-gown committee to boost sustainable development in the state.
Speaking with newsmen, Prof. Ibrahim Sabo Birnin-Kudu, the Vice-Chancellor, said the committee has helped the staff and community members discover and meet the needs of Babura residents.
He expressed, “The Town and Gown Committee looks for ways the university can assist the community beyond financial aid, such as offering free training programs to fill knowledge gaps.”
The Vice-Chancellor added that though the committee is still young, it is making progress and working to accredit its programmes and expand its offerings.
He explained that the institution has three schools and facilities currently under development, including Applied Sciences, Computing, and Engineering; an IT centre; a security office; and a library.
