GO University Holds Convocation Marathon Race

Godfrey Okoye university holds 21km convocation marathon

Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, marked its 13th convocation ceremony with an open marathon race from the Thinkers Corner campus to the Ugwuomu Nike campus, covering over 21 kilometres.

The race was open to all interested youths, with cash prizes of N500,000, N200,000, and N100,000 awarded to the first-, second, and third-place finishers in both male and female categories. Runners who placed 4th to 20th received N20,000 each.

A standout moment was the participation of 12-year-old Precious Ugwu of Queens Secondary School, Nsukka, who completed the race and finished among the top 20 in the female category. The Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Prof. Christian Anieke, awarded her an additional N200,000 for the feat.

Anieke said the marathon, now in its second edition, promotes fitness, discipline and character while helping to identify sporting talent beyond the university community. He noted that Queens Secondary School, Nsukka, again produced the highest number of female winners.

The convocation will also feature the award of certificates to 660 graduands, including 22 first-class students, alongside talk shows and other activities, concluding with a Thanksgiving Mass on Sunday.
