Google has unveiled its “Learn-Your-Way” AI-augmented textbook, an innovative tool designed to adapt to each student’s pace, style, and learning needs.
The innovation combines traditional content with generative AI, providing real-time personalisation to make studying more intuitive, interactive, and practical.
Instead of rigid chapters, the system makes examples to match student interests. For instance, using basketball scenarios to explain Newton’s laws.
Christopher Itua of the Institute for Industrial Technology (IIT) stated that the tool can assist institutions and students by generating summaries, teaching videos, and online modules for core subjects such as Mathematics and Physics.
Tech experts noted that the platform supports multiple learning styles, providing content in various formats, including mind maps, audio lessons, and adaptive quizzes.
Ibukun Bankole, a technology analyst, described it as a breakthrough for secondary and tertiary students, highlighting its multimodal approach and ability to accommodate learners with special needs.
However, she cautioned that the tool currently draws from the American curriculum, which may limit relevance in African and British curriculum-based systems. Another challenge is the issue of poor internet access, with only 38% of Africans reportedly online in 2024, compared to a global average of 68%.
