Group Demands Review of FUOYE VC Appointment

Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, newly appointed VC of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE)

The Public Accountability Project of Nigeria (PAPN) has urged President Bola Tinubu and the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, to cancel the appointment of Prof. Joshua Ogunwole as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE).

In a statement, PAPN Secretary Kolawole Abe alleged that the selection process was “marred by irregularities and driven by selfish interests,” accusing outgoing VC Prof. Abayomi Fasina and FUOYE Governing Council Chairman Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba of manipulating the process in Ogunwole’s favour.

The group called for a full investigation into FUOYE’s leadership and the VC selection exercise, citing petitions and prior allegations of corruption and unethical conduct against the outgoing VC and Council Chairman.

PAPN stressed that leadership at federal institutions must uphold integrity and warned that confirming a VC chosen through a flawed process could undermine educational standards and jeopardise students’ futures.

The organisation urged the Federal Ministry of Education, led by Dr Tunji Alausa, to enforce transparency and competence in place of favouritism, cautioning that allowing the appointment to stand would set a dangerous precedent for corruption and administrative failure.
