Busayo Oluwole Oke, Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and representative of Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, has extended his technical education scholarship scheme to register 420 additional students across all nine Government Technical Colleges in Osun State.
The expansion, mainly for 100-level students with some 200-level beneficiaries, brings the total number of scholarship recipients to about 1,500. The programme, funded entirely by Oke’s personal resources, covers tuition, enrolment, extra lessons, and other costs, costing roughly ₦40 million per academic session.
Oke noted that the initiative complements the federal free-tuition policy for technical colleges and addresses Nigeria’s skills deficit, youth unemployment, and the demand for practical expertise. Many past beneficiaries have advanced to tertiary institutions or launched small businesses using skills acquired through the scheme.
“Technical and vocational education empowers youth, reduces joblessness, and nurtures self-sustaining Nigerians,” Oke said.
College administrators credited the scheme with increased enrolment and improved graduation rates, calling it a model for community-driven investment in vocational education.
Oke urged students to make full use of the opportunity as part of building “a more capable, productive and future-ready generation.”
