Chief Uche Nnaji, former Minister of Science and Technology
The Joint Civil Society Front (JCSF), Enugu State, has pressed the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), to immediately release the certified academic records of former Minister of Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji.
The group also called for the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, to step aside to enable an unhindered investigation into Nnaji’s allegation of record tampering.
Speaking at a briefing in Enugu, JCSF said the investigative panel set up by the Federal Ministry of Education must operate without internal resistance. The panel, inaugurated by Minister of Education Dr Tunji Alausa, is probing claims that UNN altered Nnaji’s academic documents. This development contributed to his resignation from the Federal Executive Council.
JCSF argued that allowing the Vice-Chancellor to remain in office compromises the integrity of the inquiry, citing risks of interference, intimidation, or manipulation of evidence. The group also queried what it described as UNN’s inconsistent position on Nnaji’s graduation status, recalling that the university previously confirmed his graduation through the Registrar in 2023.
It insisted the institution must release Nnaji’s transcripts and academic records as formally requested, warning that failure to suspend the Vice-Chancellor could trigger mass protests across UNN campuses.
