The Hausa Ethnic Stakeholders Forum (HESFO) has slammed the Shehu Shagari University of Education (SSUE), Sokoto, for replacing Hausa Language with Fulfulde in the 2025/2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) admission requirements.
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 17, 2025, HESFO described the action as marginalisation. It added, “This is not an innocent omission but a deliberate attempt to erase Hausa identity and advance Fulani cultural dominance.”
The forum directed the institution to reinstate Hausa Language and add Fulfulde if necessary. It said the refusal to reinstate the language will be “a systematic programme to erase Hausa identity from Sokoto’s political and educational structures.”
