Honjo International Scholarship 2026 Opens for Students

The Honjo International Scholarship Foundation has announced the opening of applications for its 2026 scholarship programme, which is open to outstanding international students pursuing master’s or doctoral studies in Japan.

The fully funded award provides financial support, living expenses, and travel grants to promote global talent, cultural exchange, and long-term collaboration. Applicants from all nationalities and academic fields are eligible to apply, provided they are enrolled or plan to enrol in a Japanese graduate school by April 2026.

Master’s degree applicants must be under 30 years of age, while PhD applicants must be under 35 years of age. Proficiency in Japanese is required, as interviews are conducted in the language.  Candidates must also commit to returning to their home countries after graduation to contribute to development.

The programme will award approximately 10 scholarships, each covering tuition, a monthly stipend, and research-related travel. Benefits include a monthly allowance of ¥230,000 (for 1–2 years), ¥210,000 (for 3 years), or ¥180,000 (for 4–5 years).

Applications must be submitted online by October 31, 2025, with required documents including transcripts, a research proposal, proof of admission or enrollment, a recommendation letter, and a two-minute research presentation video.
