A Nigerian graduate, Raheemah Adebiyi, has been awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship to study Global Development and Environment at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.
Adebiyi, who completed her degree in Agricultural Economics and Farm Management at the University of Ilorin in 2023, stated that the award would enable her to contribute to addressing pressing challenges related to development and climate change.
Speaking to the university’s bulletin, she described the opportunity as “life-changing” and urged current undergraduates to combine academic work with extracurricular activities to develop a broader range of skills.
She credited her success to strong mentorship, particularly from her former supervisor and Acting Head of Department, Dr Khadijat Amolegbe. “Beyond academic supervision, Dr Amolegbe continued to support me even after graduation,” Adebiyi said.
The Commonwealth Scholarship, funded by the UK government, is awarded to outstanding students from developing countries to support advanced study that addresses global issues. Adebiyi is expected to begin her programme in Bristol later this year, joining other scholars from across the world.
